As a vehicle owner, It is important that you know and understands the workings and functions of some parts of your vehicle. This helps you make educated decisions on vehicle maintenance, probably to visit a service centre or not.
There are several parts that work together to make a vehicle function properly. deliver power and eventual mobility to the vehicle. In this read, We will discuss the basic vehicle parts and their individual functions.
The Engine
The most important part of any vehicle. Any vehicle without an engine won’t definitely be considered a viable vehicle. The engine controls so many activities of the vehicle and several vehicles depends on it. Some vehicle parts dependent on the engine are engine block, pistons (pistons pump up and down as the spark plugs fire and the pistons compress the air/fuel mix), cylinder head, crankshaft, camshaft, valves and oil pan.
Vehicle Battery
The functionality of your vehicle depends on your vehicle battery, without the battery, your vehicle isn’t going to turn on. You may want to keep it in good condition always. Your battery stores energy in chemical form so it can be released as electricity to run your vehicle’s electrical components.
Axle
The axle on your vehicle is a rod or shaft that rotates the wheels and supports the vehicle’s weight. Without them, your wheels wouldn’t be able to rotate. Since axles conduct the power that turns the wheels, every vehicle needs axles in order to operate properly.
Brakes
A brake is a device that inhibits motion by absorbing energy from a moving system. It is used for slowing or stopping a moving vehicle, wheel, axle, or to prevent its motion, most often accomplished by means of friction. This is something you need to be very careful with. If your brakes start to squeak when you push down on the pedal, it may be time to get them replaced.
The Fuel Injector
Fuel injectors are simply solenoids, cylindrical coils of wire acting as a magnet carrying an electrical current, they are a very important part of the engine’s fuel delivery system. This is what gets gas from your fuel tank into the engine. It is the carburettor’s successor.
The Radiator
A radiator is part of the engine’s cooling system, It helps to eliminate excess heat from the engine. The radiator keeps the engine from overheating. If your vehicle has overheating issues, the radiator is what is most likely at fault.
The Clutch
This is the part of the vehicle which connects two or more rotating shafts. The clutch is moved from gear to gear to keep you driving smoothly. It allows you to switch gears, and when you push down on the pedal, it allows the transmission to keep running when the vehicle is in neutral. Without the clutch, the vehicle would stall.
Gear Box
This feature turns power into movement. The energy generated by the engine is transmitted to the wheels and allows movement with the use of the gearbox. Without this feature, you’d sit in your vehicle with the engine running, going nowhere.
The Alternator
An alternator is a type of electric generator used in modern automobiles to charge the battery and to power the electrical system when its engine is running. This is why your lights can kill your battery if you leave them on when the engine isn’t running.
In all these, you need to understand the importance of each component and what signs, sounds to look out for and when they are cause for concern and you should visit a service centre.
